Welcome to the Totnes School of Piano. We are a team of two piano teachers who, between us, teach students aged 5 and up. We are happy to teach beginners (of any age!) all the way through diploma level musicians and beyond. You can read about the basics of our piano lessons below.

Schedule

The Totnes School of Piano lesson schedule follows the school term schedule. Lessons are on a weekly basis during term time.

Tuition

We charge annual tuition for the academic year which is payable either as payments per term (3 equal payments) or per month (10 equal payments September-June - no tuition due in July or August). If a student starts lessons mid-year, the first tuition payment is prorated to catch up to the tuition schedule.

Books and Supplies

You must have a piano (acoustic or electric) or keyboard at home. If you have an electric piano or keyboard, you will need one with weighted keys, preferably full size (88 keys) and a sustain pedal. We will recommend tutor books for purchase, and we also supply piano diaries and supplemental materials.

Practice

Regular practice is crucial! Practice is most effective when it is part of a student’s daily routine. With commitment to learning music comes the decision to practice on a regular basis.

Recitals

We have two recitals per academic year (December and June/July), and sometimes we have other events and opportunities for student performances. Recitals provide students with further incentive to practice and usually have a positive effect on a student’s sense of accomplishment. Recitals build confidence, create a bonding effect on children, parents and adult students, and reinforce the concept that good practice habits result in good musicians.
